Flutronix had the distinct honor of competing in the inaugural M-Prize, an international chamber arts competition based in Ann Arbor, at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. After reviewing over 170 applications from 13 countries, the M-Prize Screening Jury invited 29 ensembles to compete in the live Semi-Final, Final, and Grand Prize rounds of competition. This spring, I had the honor of serving on the panel for the inaugural New Music USA Impact Fund. The Impact Fund represents the first major effort to aggregate and amplify the voice of the New York new music community online. It supports new residency relationships, provides general operating support, and leverages the New Music USA online platform to share events and news with a growing fan base.
THE COHORT
Together, New Music USA and the Impact Fund cohort will tackle challenges facing the NYC new music community today, create a vibrant public identity for the sector, build connections and collaborations, and find innovative solutions to the need for increased performance and rehearsal space.

This past May, Flutronix made their Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago debut. Presented in association with the eighth blackbird residency, Flutronix performed music from their latest EP City of Breath, along with selections from previous releases. Held in the MCA’s third floor galleries and with a packed crowd, the duo’s program paid homage to their classical upbringing, featuring more “acoustic” works. Watch a fan video from this performance.
This past spring, Flutronix spent a day at the British International School of Washington D.C. as part of The Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Program. Launched in 2015, The Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Program is a multifaceted collaboration to create an innovative arts education curriculum for students in grades K-12. The program brings Juilliard’s philosophies of teaching dance, drama, and music to Nord Anglia classrooms around the world. Flutronix had the privilege of working with elementary and middle school students, presenting their original workshops and a live performance for the entire school community. // More info.
This spring I had the incredible honor of performing in the Black Girls Rock! award show. Every year, the Black Girls Rock! award show airs on BET and celebrates the achievements and contributions of black women in entertainment, service and business. I was part of their first-ever orchestra, which accompanied Marsha Ambrosius, Corrine Bailey Rae and Imani Uzuri in a collaborative performance. This was an unforgettable and empowering night, full of incredible energy and amazing women. To share space with black heroines like Gladys Knight, Shonda Rhimes, Tracee Ellis Ross, Rihanna, and soo many more… felt magical. I’ll never forget this night and the close musical colleagues I shared it with.
